Steinberg's ReCycle software performs beat mapping, but slicing up a sample in ReCycle and sending the keymapped beats to a sampler-and an associated MIDI file to a sequencer-requires external gear, a solid grasp of MIDI, and additional software. These discrete samples are then mapped to an event list (which is essentially a tempo map of the original sample's groove) for playback in sequential order. TRK files are used to address 'beat-mapped' samples, which are samples that have been cut into several smaller samples to define and capture a recording's component beats.
